Computational Design for Advance Parametric Architecture

Computational Design for Advance Parametric Architecture

Computational Design for Advance Parametric Architecture

Computational Design for Advance Parametric Architecture is a series of 3-day long workshop with an aim of providing insight into combining diverse digital design methodologies and the use of different tools such as Rhinoceros and Grasshopper as an aid in design exploration by looking at Complex Designs as an inter-relationship of intrinsic and extrinsic parameters.

This workshop is an opportunity for architects, designers, artists, students of Architecture and Art interested in developing contemporary design strategies made possible through the use of digital techniques. Building up technical skills will provide the attendees with a solid platform from which to start rethinking and exploring innovative architectural ideas in collaboration with the team and the tutor.

DETAILS:

Date:     31-August, 1-September & 2-September 2018
Timings: 09:00 AM - 01:00 PM | 02:00 pm - 05:00 PM
BIM-ME will offer one coffee break and one lunch break.

OUTLINE:

1. Introduction to Parametric Modelling.
2. Introduction to Rhino.
  • UI
  • Commands
  • Workflows.
3. Introduction Grasshopper.
  • UI
  • Commands
  • Workflows.
  • How we implement grasshopper in our everyday work.
  • Case studies of fully parametric workflows.
4. Exercise 1.
  • Understanding data trees.
5. Exercise 2.
  • Understanding procedural modelling. Modelling a Mobius strip.
6. Exercise 3.
  • Making a parametric tower. Designing with parameters.
7. Exercise 4.
  • Utilizing attractors and context data.
8. Exercise 5.
  • Penalization and documentation. Generating schedules.
9. Exercise 6.
  • Validation exercise. The students will complete an exercise on their own and demonstrate their understanding of the concepts learnt during the workshop. After this time, the exercise will be resolved with the group, giving the student confidence in the knowledge gained during the workshop.
10. Brief Demo and Presentation about the process of designing 3D Modeling by practicing on real life projects by Zaha Hadid.
11.Latest tools used for Grasshopper like Kangaroo, Karamba....

REQUIRED SOFTWARE

BIM-ME will provide each participant one laptop with the software being installed. However, if you wish to bring your own laptop, kindly advise us.

If you don’t have a software, trial versions can be found at each software company’s website. We will send participants links to the required software, trials and plug-ins for download. Please have the software installed prior to the workshop. If you have an issue installing software, we may be able to help you before the workshop.
